Butler First Step Joins 2025 Gift Responsibly Campaign
Raising Awareness of Youth Gambling Risks
Butler First Step promotes responsible gifting this holiday season.
Butler, PA – Butler First Step is proud to announce its participation in the 2025 Gift Responsibly Campaign, joining lotteries and community organizations across North America to raise awareness about the risks of underage lottery use. The campaign, organized by the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) and supported by the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL), works to educate families and communities about the dangers of exposing youth to gambling.
Research shows that early exposure to gambling, even through seemingly harmless lottery tickets or scratch-offs, can increase the likelihood of developing gambling problems later in life. Unfortunately, these items are sometimes given to children by adults who are unaware of the associated risks.
“Youth gambling is an issue that often goes unnoticed,” said Lisa Gill, a Prevention Specialist with Butler County Drug & Alcohol Program. “By joining the Gift Responsibly Campaign, we can help parents and caregivers understand the risks and forgo adding that scratch-off ticket as a stocking stuffer or into a card around the holiday season.”
During November and December, Butler First Step will participate in several campaign activities, including public service announcements, social media posts, community outreach, and education programs to promote responsible behaviors. These efforts aim to inform families and the community about safe practices regarding lottery products and gambling awareness.
Why This Matters
Youth gambling is a growing concern in communities nationwide. The Gift Responsibly Campaign provides vital education for families, schools, and local organizations to help prevent gambling-related harm among children and teens. Derek Longmeier, President of NCPG’s Board of Directors, emphasized:
“We’re grateful to Butler First Step for joining this effort and working to expand education and awareness to protect young people from gambling-related harm.”
