Family Support & Parent Education Programs
Programs that build trust, improve bonding and communication, and support parents and caregivers in raising healthy, informed children with prevention that begins at home.
SFP 10-14 has been compared to over 6,000 prevention programs during its 25+ years of existence and continues to remain the number one prevention program in the world for reducing alcohol and substance use. It is a FREE 7-week program in which children ages 10-14 attend with their caregivers. Children and caregivers break out into their own respective sessions and come together at the end of the evening for a family session each week. Parents/caregivers increase their nurturing and supportive skills while youth gain an increased appreciation of their parent/caregivers and develop skills for dealing with stress and peer pressure. Dinner for everyone and childcare for younger siblings is provided free of charge each week.
Power of Parents is a program developed by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) that educates parents about their influence with their teens and equips them with the conversational tools to talk to their teens about alcohol. The presentations are under an hour and can be provided in various school and community settings. The program targets parents of middle school and high school students. Parents receive the link to a Parent Handbook, a resource for continuing the conversation with their children.
An interactive session designed to provide adults with education on drug trends that touch our community, including prescription and illegal opioids. A mock teen bedroom will be on display showing everyday items (paraphernalia) that can be used to hide or use drugs with. This program can be done in-person or virtually in various community settings.
This campaign leads up to prom and graduation season when teen parties involving alcohol occur more frequently. Campaign materials are distributed to reach teens, encouraging them to choose a drug and alcohol free prom and graduations. Materials are also developed to target parents to remind them providing alcohol to minors is illegal and to reinforce the positive norm that most parents do not provide alcohol to minors.
